Remembering the Frontier Wars
November 9, 2017
This pole was painted by local Indigenous artist, Ramesh Prasad.
It depicts the Indigenous people who were killed in the Frontier wars. They were shot. They were poisoned. They were hanged. The Frontier Wars Installation ( which completes the Indigenous War Memorial and has been long in the making) will be formally opened on January 5th 2018. This is the anniversary of the public hanging in Brisbane, of Dundalli. He was a local warrior, lawman, and resisitance leader.
There will be a service of lament at St Marks Anglican Church, Buderim led by Bp Jeremy Greaves, with an address by the historian Libby Connors who is the author of Warrior, a book about Dundalli's life and death. This will be followed by a gathering at the Green House to open the Frontier Wars installation.
